Forest conversion in the Berchtesgadener Land: Hunting as a key to climate protection!
In an urgent meeting of the ARGE at the community hunting area "Weildorf 2", the first chairman Hans Berger addressed the alarming situation of the spruce forests. Bark beetle infestation, snow bruch and wind throw have caused massive damage and created ideal habitat for roe deer. The acute need for a forest conversion with climate -adapted tree species such as fir, beech or Douglasia was particularly emphasized. Tassilo Heller, department head of the office for nutrition, agriculture and forestry, underlined the importance of forest reports on the objective analysis of the game influence on forest rejuvenation.
The discussion also revolved around the responsibility of the hunting tenants in mountains, especially with regard to the protective forests. Daniela Kronawitter from the district office made it clear that the limits of the hunting authority are clear if shooting plans are not met. The ARGE members agreed that a collaboration of everyone involved, including hunting tenants and forest owners, is necessary to fulfill the wishes of the owners. In the next phase, they want to sensitize hunting board members to a sustainable hunting. The current reports at www.traunsteiner-tagsblatt.de .
