Proactive help: Welthungerhilfe starts initiative for disaster prevention
The world is in the alarm state: extreme weather disasters increase and particularly affect the most vulnerable regions with full force! But there is hope in the shadow of the disasters! Welthungerhilfe announces its decisive contribution to the "Global Dialogue Platform on Anticipatory Action" - a top -class meeting that will take place in Berlin from October 22nd to 24th, 2024.
Here the heroes of humanitarian aid come together! Since 2015, experts and decision -makers have been doing everything they can to initiate a new age of predictive help. This platform is nothing less than the cornerstone for real change in dealing with humanity: instead of waiting until the catastrophe strikes, Agi (anticipatory global initiatives) is actively traded!
a strategic approach for the future
The focus of this innovative program is the use of early warning systems. These make it possible to take auxiliary measures before a disaster like drought or flood begins its devastating work. Matthias Amling, team leader for anticipatory action at Welthungerhilfe, sums it up: "In Africa alone, up to 118 million people could be affected by catastrophic weather events. If we rethink and actively act instead of reactive, we protect life!"
Welthungerhilfe goes one step further! In the future, in nine countries in Africa south of the Sahara, it will support organizations for building solid early warning systems and emergency plans. Their goal: keep people from starvation!
aid actions that save lives
Welthungerhilfe, together with partners such as Hope Restoration South Sudan in South Sudan, was able to support over 1,000 families in Panyijar County with urgently needed aid goods. Cash, planning, solar lamps and hygiene materials were not only vital, but also a symbolic act of solidarity!
not enough! In Zimbabwe, the helpers have installed water pipes to secure 440 families in the drought -thumb to access to water. In addition, cattle vaccinations were carried out to protect the livelihood of the shepherds and to keep their animals from starvation!
As part of the "Global Dialogue Platform", Welthungerhilfe will work together with an impressive network of experts and partners from Germany, Mozambique, Nigeria, Somalia and Zimbabwe to make the advantages of foresight measures for everyone!
interviews with Matthias Amling and representatives of our partner organizations are possible on request. And for everyone who wants to understand the true seriousness of the situation: Current movement material from Zimbabwe is available!
