The Berlin police emphasize that the monitoring of these prohibition zones and the use of security forces is responsible for private security services. In the past, on New Year's Eve, there have been repeated collapsing in these zones, in which police officers were also thrown at firecrackers. The police union therefore demands more comprehensive measures and advocates that pyrotechnics may only be used by professionals and in controlled environments. In order to counteract the potential violence that has occurred in recent years during New Year's Eve celebrations, more than 2,800 additional police officers will be in use.
