Christoph Gröner: Housing shortage in Berlin - The fight for affordable living space

Christoph Gröner, a prominent client in Germany, has had his business seat in Berlin, but has not realized construction projects in the capital for two years. In 2020, Gröner donated 820,000 euros to the Berlin CDU. At a future forum of his Green Group, he confessed to the Social Democrat. When discussing affordable living space, Gröner emphasized that construction costs were not the main problem, but the exorbitant property prices. This leads to total costs per square meter of up to 12,000 euros.

Gröner explained that Berlin has experienced a dramatic price development where the property prices have increased enormously. The rents in the new building are now between 20 and 25 euros per square meter, with the proportion of land making a large part of the rent. Building land speculation is a challenge because the construction companies have to bear high property costs. Gröner emphasized the need to compensate for social justice and economic prosperity.

With regard to housing in Berlin, Gröner said that property prices are closely linked to the purchasing power of the population. Due to the lack of purchasing power of the Berliner, his company has not started any new projects in Berlin since 2022. Gröner emphasized that a healthy mixing of social housing and freely financed apartments is necessary to meet different needs.

GRÖNER spoke out for the use of alternative energies such as geothermal energy and photovoltaics. He expressed concerns about current energy policy and emphasized the need for sustainable energy supply. Gröner stated that they were convinced of social democrat, but to have donated to the Berlin CDU out of conviction to strengthen a bourgeois class in the city.

With regard to the lack of housing, Gröner proposed to better use the existing urban resources and, for example, cover motorway areas for housing. He emphasized the importance of a quick creation of building law and criticized the ideological interference in construction projects. Gröner called for cross -party cooperation to effectively act against the lack of housing and prevent social unrest.
