Discussion about women in socialism - event in Berlin
On September 12, a discussion evening on the subject of "Women in Socialism - Women in the GDR" will take place in the Pablo Neruda district central library in Berlin. The event organized by the district mayor Clara Herrmann is intended to illuminate the diverse facets of the role of women in socialism.
The discussion revolves around the different attributions associated with "the Eastern women". Some see them as a symbol of female self -determination that has never been reached in the Federal Republic of Germany. Others see them as the victim of a totalitarian dictatorship in which their emancipation was prescribed by the state. The event aims to illuminate and discuss the nuances and differences of these perspectives.
The event begins at 6 p.m. and is the public start for a conference of the same name the following day. The cooperation partners for this evening are the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen memorial, the chair for general history of the latest time of the University of Greifswald and the Berlin representative for the processing of the SED dictatorship.
In a conversation, Henrike Voigtländer, head of the Keibelstraße learning location, and Henriette Rodemerk, research assistant at the Else-Frenkel-Brunswik Institute for Democracy research at the University of Leipzig, with Michèle Matschk-Delhaes, speaker at the Berlin representative for the processing of the SED dictatorship. Participation in the event is free of charge, but registration is recommended.
The team is available for further information and press inquiries at press@ba-fk.berlin.de or by phone at (030) 90298-2843. It promises an interesting and revealing evening on a significant topic in the history of the GDR and socialism.
