Safe intersection at Mehringdamm: Refurbishment starts on November 18
The crossing Mehringdamm/Blücherstraße/Obentrautstraße is now becoming a danger zone for cyclists and drivers! Again and again there are accidents that often have dramatic consequences for those affected. But now there is finally light at the end of the tunnel: the city has announced a comprehensive road renovation that should not only make traffic safer, but also improve the urgently needed infrastructure.
It starts on November 18! The intersection is partially closed for around two weeks, but don't panic - the two directions on the Mehringdamm remain open! The asphalt ceiling in an area of around 1,500 square meters is completely renewed. Chaotic traffic is finally sorted out with fresh asphalt and new markings. With the attachment of new turning arrows and the reset of the holding lines in accordance with the applicable requirements, more clarity is created for all road users.
improved security through new markings
The new, bright red areas of conflict should set a clear signal for all road users. Cyclists can be happy - the marked cycling strips are expanded to a generous width of 2.25 meters. "With this road renovation, we implement an important measure to increase traffic safety," emphasizes Annika Gerold, the district councilor for traffic, green spaces, order and environment.
This is a quick and inexpensive solution that implements the order of the accident commission. A complete conversion of the intersection would be associated with enormous planning and financial expenditure, but the update now planned promises a quick way to more security!
The new design will not only make traffic safer for drivers, but also give cyclists a better feeling. After all, traffic safety proceeds - and this is particularly important at a hub that uses so many people every day.
It is only to be hoped that these steps will actually bring the positive effects that all hope for. We are excited to see what the intersection will look like!
