Memorial event in Spandau: Mahnwachen in honor of the wall deaths

memory of the victims of the wall building

August 13th is a striking day in the history of Germany. On this date in 1961, the construction of the Berlin Wall was decided by the SED regime in the GDR, which sealed the division of the country for many years. This wall became not only a physical barrier between East and West, but also a symbol of the oppression and the conflict of the Cold War. The social and emotional effects of the wall building are still visible today.
