Home supervision checks police operation in nursing home in Berlin-Lichtenberg

The home supervision has decided to check the police operation in a Berlin senior care home that was necessary due to a lack of staff. The Senate Administration Administration said that if it is found that the nursing home has shown misconduct, corresponding supervisory measures must then be taken to remedy defects. Despite the incident, it was ensured that the care of the residents remains guaranteed.

A nurse discovered on Monday evening in the home in Berlin-Lichtenberg that the night shift was not sufficiently occupied because there was no signed caregiver that was allowed to give certain medication. The plan only provided two nursing assistants, although 170 older people should be looked after with all care levels.

As a result, the nurse unsuccessfully tried to contact the on -call service and the home management. In the emergency situation, she finally called the police and the fire brigade. The police sent a patrol car with three officials at 10:30 p.m., while the fire brigade sent ambulances with several paramedics.

The Domicil group of companies that operates the nursing home regretted the incident and explained that the nurse acted appropriately and made an emergency call. The original planning for the night provided for four people, including a specialist and three helpers. Due to an EDP problem, the booking of a temporary worker was not properly transmitted with the appropriate qualification, which led to the lack of personnel.

The Senate Hospital Administration indicated that the personnel situation in the nursing home was checked regularly in November 2023 and was sufficiently qualified at the time with a specialist rate of 54 percent.
