Reading against forgetting honors resistance group in Lichtenberg

On September 18, 2024, the district office Lichtenberg, together with the Bürgerverein Fennpfuhl e.V. The event takes place to commemorate people who were chased, abused and murdered between 1933 and 1945 due to their resistance to National Socialism.

The reason for the memorial event is the execution of the resistance members Anton Saefkow, Franz Jacob and Bernhard Bestlein 80 years ago in the Brandenburg-Görden prison. Prominent guests such as the district mayor Martin Schaefer, the politician Gesine Lötzsch, the actress Gina Pietsch and the interpreter Olaf Ruhl will take part in the approximately 90-minute reading, which ends with a wreath resolution. Participation in the reading is free and does not require registration.

District Mayor Martin Schaefer emphasizes the importance of the resistance group around Saefkow, Jacob and Bästlein for the identity of the Fennpfuhl district and recognizes their commitment to peace, democracy and tolerance. The public reading "Against Forgetting" has been taking place in Fennpfuhl for 15 years, whose streets are named after the resistance members. Further resistance members will be commemorated in smaller events in the coming months, and a brochure on the subject has been reissued and is available in the Anton-Saefkow library and schools in the Fennpfuhl. Various local initiatives and clubs are involved in the organization.
