Invisible disability in focus: free workshop in Berlin

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, the self -help contact point offers a workshop on the subject of “invisible disability”. Many people immediately think of visible restrictions in the term disability, but there are as many invisible disabilities as, for example, alcohol dependency or depression. Affected people of these invisible diseases often feel misunderstood or discriminated against because their restrictions are not obvious.

In the workshop, an exchange about invisible diseases and disabilities, their forms of discrimination and the handling of it will take place. This offer is free of charge and interested parties can now log in via the office of the self -help contact point. The workshop is led by a speaker of the anti-discrimination counseling age, disability, chronic illness and takes place in Alt-Marzahn 59a in 12685 Berlin.

Invisible disabilities are often difficult to recognize and can have an impact on the daily life of those affected. With the help of workshops and information, prejudices can be reduced and understanding of these invisible diseases can be improved. The workshop offers the opportunity to exchange ideas with other affected people and to develop strategies in dealing with discrimination.

It is important that society is sensitized to the diversity of disabilities and diseases that are not always recognizable at first glance. Such events such as the workshop on the subject of “invisible disability” can be reduced and a more inclusive environment can be created.

The following table lists some examples of invisible disabilities:

| Type of invisible disability | Examples |
| ———————————– | ———– |
| Mental illnesses | Depression, anxiety disorders |
| Chronic pain | Fibromyalgia, migraines |
| Neurological diseases | Multiple sclerosis, epilepsy |

It is important that such workshops continue to be offered in order to strengthen the awareness of invisible disabilities and to offer a platform for exchange and support. The workshop on the subject of “invisible disability” is a way to address these important topics and to sensitize the participants to the diversity and complexity of disabilities.
