Michael Tsokos - Germany's best -known forensic doctor in an interview

Michael Tsokos, a well -known German forensic doctor, gave up his management of forensic medicine at the Berlin Charité at the end of 2023. In an interview with the Berliner Zeitung, he spoke on various topics, including the differences between forensic medicine and pathology, his first experience with a dead in the winter of 1978 during a snow catastrophe and his decision to study forensic medicine. Tsokos emphasized the need for independent university medicine and explained why he decided to leave the Charité.

In particular, Tsokos emphasized the problems in medical training and teaching during corona pandemic. He criticized the lecturer-student relationship and the acceptance of apprenticeships. Tsokos compared the situation with the University of Pécs in Hungary, where work intensively in small learning groups, in contrast to the large and fiscal -controlled approach to the Charité. He reported on drastic cuts in the curriculum of forensic medicine, which influenced his decision to depart from Berlin.

Furthermore, Tsoko spoke about the progress in forensic medicine, such as hair analysis for drug use determination and computer tomographic virtual autopsy. He told of unusual cases, like the mummified body of knight Kahlbutz and corpses, the faces of which had flowed away. In addition, he expressed his views on a possible murder of the singer Whitney Houston and quoted sloppiness in US police work.

tsokos also reflected on the challenges of forensic medicine, including the overlooking of killing offenses and the importance of a thorough body show. He complained about the insufficient training of doctors and the consequences that this can have. Nevertheless, Tsokos strives to make the work of forensic medicine public and to promote the understanding of the death issue in society. Despite his resignation from Charité, Tsokos plans to continue his work as a bestselling author and publish a book series about a Berlin forensic doctor.
