Traffic chaos in Berlin: Ringbahn and A100 bridge until the end of April tight!

daily traffic disorders currently shape the Berlin traffic picture, since the ring railway between Halensee and Westend is closed for at least three weeks. The reason for these massive restrictions is the demolition of a dilapidated bridge of the A100 motorway, which was decided by the federal motorway company. The demolition should be completed by April 25, 2025 at the latest, but it remains uncertain whether the S-Bahn can drive again the following day. The demolition was necessary after a tear in the bridge has increased, which already led to a closure of the three -lane road in mid -March. S-Bahn routes running under the bridge were also closed, and around 50,000 passengers on the affected section of the ring railway are also affected.

The motorway node Functionurm, to which the A100 belongs, is one of the most stressed traffic nodes in Germany, with around 230,000 vehicles a day. Before the closure, around 95,000 vehicles drove the damaged bridge. In view of this high traffic load, the effects of the blocking for commuters and drivers are considerable. In addition, the ring railway in the east of Berlin is not affected, where it counts the triple of passengers.

Need for a quick replacement new building

Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing underlines the urgency of a rapid replacement new building after the necessary financing is ensured. The federal government plans to provide around 150 million euros for replacement new construction despite the provisional housekeeping. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) has already demanded that the construction work to be carried out around the clock to accelerate the deadline for demolition and new building.

Preparations for the demolition have been running for a few days. In a crisis meeting, convened by traffic senator Ute Bonde (CDU), representatives of the Federal Ministry of Transport, the Senate and the construction industry discussed the infrastructural effects during the demolition. The senator appeals to everyone involved in implementing the measures as quickly as possible in order to minimize the effects on local public transport, emergency and emergency services as well as commercial transport. A committee is to coordinate the construction work.

alternative offers during construction work

Until the end of the demolition work, replacement traffic by bus is set up between the Halensee and Westend S-Bahn stations. The S-Bahn traffic is to be restored after demolishing the ring railway bridge in order to relieve the commuters as well as possible. The demolition of the Westend Bridge is also planned early and is commissioned by Autobahn GmbH. These comprehensive construction measures are intended to ensure that mobility in Berlin is also maintained during the necessary work.
