Neukölln: School examination 2022 shows stable results

The latest data of the district office on the schooling examinations of school beginners in 2022 show a stable to slightly improved situation compared to 2019. A total of 3,401 children were examined, with Neukölln upstairs entering the lower midfield in district comparison. District City Councilor Hannes Rehfeldt presented the results on Thursday and emphasized that despite the corona pandemic, no immediate negative effects on the children could be found.

One of the striking changes was the increase in children with obesity, while vaccination behavior improved and the day -to -day visit decreased slightly. No significant impairments by pandemic were found with regard to social and health aspects. Hannes Rehfeldt praised the strength and resilience of the Neukölln families, which made a good start to school under difficult conditions. Nevertheless, he sees improvement in areas such as healthy nutrition and early daycare visit.

The investigation showed that many children come from low social status groups in Neukölln, but their share has dropped since 2019. The proportion of children with a migration background is still high, with western industrialized countries playing an increasingly greater role. Families with a migration background in Neukölln have an above -average knowledge of German, although many children still have language deficits. Health indicators show average to slightly positive results, but there is still an increased need for action in relation to obesity and smoke behavior in families.

Especially children from families with low levels of education and unemployment need additional support to ensure equal opportunities when starting school. Despite some improvements, the investigation shows that a lot of work is still necessary to promote the development and health of Neukölln children.
