The importance of the city twinning: Oleksandra Bienert receives the district medal 2024 in Pankow

On September 13, 2024, the district medal in 2024 was awarded to Oleksandra Bienert as part of the annual reception of the district office and the district council of Pankow (BVV). This honor is not only an award for a single person, but also reflects the important role that city twinning can play in times of crises and conflicts.

Oleksandra Bienert, who was born in the West Ukrainian city of Tscherniwzi in 1983, is known as an important activist for the city twinning between Pankow and Riwne. Your initiative not only promoted the intercultural exchange between the two cities, but also gave the local communities in Pankow and Riwne the opportunity to show solidarity and support.

The laudator Astrid Landero Alvarado, herself wearer of the district medal in the previous year, praised Bienert's merits in her speech. "She gave the impetus for the city partnership and thus made important bridges between people," said Alvarado. This partnership enables children from Riwne to spend their vacation in Pankow and that relief supplies could be transported to the Ukrainian city.

The background of the town twinning has historical roots. Tscherniwzi, Bienert's hometown, has a long history as a multicultural place in which different languages and cultures met. This experience shaped Bienert and motivated her to work for the European community of values, which is particularly important in times of crisis.

When the medal was presented by the district mayor Dr. Cordelia Koch and the BVV head Dr. Oliver Jütting emphasized Bienert the relevance of community work: "Thanks to the committed Pankower: Inside we are together in times of need." Her words illustrate how important the cohesion is in difficult times, especially in view of the continuing conflict in Ukraine.

The district medal, an artistically designed bronze, was created on an initiative of BVV in 2012 to distinguish people who have made a contribution to the Pankow district. In addition to the medal, Bienert also received a certificate and entered the district's golden book, which expresses its special contribution.

In summary, it can be said that the awarding of the district medal 2024 to Oleksandra Bienert not only recognizes your personal achievements, but also emphasizes the commitment of the community for international solidarity and the strengthening of partnerships in crisis times. This award is a sign that every voice and every commitment in the fight against injustice and for a united future counts.
