Tiger mosquitoes in Pankow: Care for the cemeteries!
Tiger mosquitoes in Pankow: Care for the cemeteries!
Alarm in Berlin-Pankow! The dreaded tiger mosquitoes (Aedes Albopictus) have now also arrived in our district! Now there is a closer look, because these striking black and white striped pests are not only an annoying annoyance, they can also transmit dangerous diseases. Larvae of these mosquitoes have already been discovered in cemeteries north and south of the busy Prenzlauer Berg Straße Berg - an alarm sign for all residents!
The problems are already beginning to show outdoors: After the tiger mosquitoes were previously spotted in the allotment garden systems of Treptow-Köpenick and Neukölln, the district offices Mitte and Pankow are now on alert! They advise the cemetery concerned and provide comprehensive information material. What does this mean for visitors to the cemeteries? Notices with valuable information from the Pankow health department will help visitors to protect themselves!
how you can help!
"The monitoring of the tiger mosquitoes in Berlin is actively carried out by the district office center" - this is not a mere phrase, but the call to the Berlin population! Show civil courage and report mosquito specimens or photos that could provide information about the unwelcome guests! Send your information by email to vectoronitoring@ba-mitte.berlin.de . Together we can take action against the little beasts!
And best of all: soon there will be official checklists to combat and reduce this annoying mosquito population explosion! This Initiative comes from the “Mückenatlas” project, which supports innovative research institutions. Who would have thought that science and civil engagement could go hand in hand?
protect yourself!
Moos green and bound to the water - this is how tiger mosquitoes and their breeding spots feel comfortable! To avoid the annoying stitches, we should be warned: keep plastics such as watering cans or grave vases empty! Avoid standing water so that the mosquitoes do not have a habitat. And don't forget: mosquito repellent and long clothing are their best allies in the fight against the mosquito plague!
Although the tiger mosquitoes do not naturally carry dangerous pathogens such as dengue or zika virus, they are deceptive. Translations of these diseases have already been observed in countries such as France and Italy, but nothing of the sort has yet been documented in Germany. So let's stay vigilant together and protect our surroundings!
