Spin -start nets in Berlin parks: Spin motting ensure uncertainty

In the past few weeks, citizens have increasingly reported on the district's parks and green areas of the district. These networks are built by web moths that are among the night folds and are completely harmless to humans. Spin moths are small butterflies that put their eggs on branches in July and August. The caterpillars hatch in autumn and hibernate to eat out on the outgoing bushes and trees from April and to build their spin -start networks from the beginning of May, which they protect against predators and the weather conditions.

The caterpillars of the clamping moth can lead to feed damage on the trees, which can restrict the vitality of the plants. However, most plants drive out without permanent damage. Natural enemies of the clamping moths are birds and various types of insect that feed on the moths and their caterpillars. Strong weather events promote the increased emergence of the web moths this year.

Julia Schrod-Thiel, district councilor for order, environment and traffic, informs about the risk of confusion between the spin-up networks of the spins moths and the white-brushed nests of the oak procession spinner dangerous for humans. The caterpillars of the oak processionary spinner can cause allergic reactions, while the web moths are harmless to humans.

It is important to educate the population about the differences between the two types to avoid panic. The spin -off networks of the spinning moths can be worrying at first glance, but are a natural part of the ecosystem. A targeted information campaign can help clarify misunderstandings and at the same time to promote understanding of the diversity of nature.
