Water buffalo back in the Tegeler: project goes into the next round
On Friday, May 31, 2024, the water buffalos return to the Tegeler Fliess in the Hermsdorf district of Reinickendorfer. Under the direction of district mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner and district councilor Julia Schrod-Thiel, five water buffalos will arrive at around 11:00 a.m. in the western pasture area along Forststraße in 13467 Hermsdorf.
The water buffalos are already a crowd puller and are eagerly awaited by many residents of Reinickendorf as well as visitors from other districts and the surrounding area. The animals can be observed particularly well from the information boards, but are also happy to retire in the pasture bushes to calm down. It is pointed out that visitors should not get too close to the animals and have to consider the safety instructions.
The Waterbuffle project is financially secure for another three years, thanks to a collaboration between the district, the Senate Administration and the Spandau landscape maintenance association. The district office has undertaken to continue maintaining the Tegeler tile with natural and environmentally friendly measures. The project was recognized in February 2019 as the official project of the UN decade biological diversity, since it is particularly committed to the preservation of biological diversity in Germany.
