Replaced repair bonus: New network supports local initiatives
Sustainability in focus: Berlin relies on repair funding
The city of Berlin is planning a new step towards saving resources and environmental protection. The introduction of a so -called "repair bonus" was planned, but this measure is now being delayed. The environmental senator Ute Bonde (CDU) announced on Wednesday that the start date will not be "in mid -September" as originally on September 1st.
The concept behind the repair bonus
The repair bonus should only apply to the repair of electrical appliances, including common household appliances such as coffee machines, dishwasher and washing machines as well as smartphones and laptops. More detailed information on the amount of the bonus has not yet been published. However, rumors state that the costs in repair cafés between 25 and 200 euros are completely reimbursed, while in specialist companies a reimbursement of 50% for invoices between 75 and 200 euros is provided.
Development of a new network
As part of this initiative, the “Repami” network was also launched. This network aims to bring craft businesses and repair cafes together. On the associated website [repami.de], not only professional repair services are listed, but also voluntary initiatives in which newcomers can repair themselves under expert guidance. So far, around 60 craft businesses and 56 repair cafes have joined the network.
Financial support for sustainable projects
A budget of 1.2 million euros is available for promoting the "Repami" network, which was provided by the Senate for the next two years. This is another step to promote sustainable initiatives and to strengthen the awareness of repair services in the population.
A look at Thuringia and Saxony
Berlin is not the first region to follow this approach. There are already similar repair bonuses in Thuringia and Saxony. The impetus for such programs comes through an EU directive that aims to promote the circular economy and avoid unnecessary garbage. Interest in sustainable solutions is becoming increasingly important in many German cities, which is also reflected in the growing number of repair cafes and initiatives.
The delay in the repair bonus raises questions, but the general direction remains clear: a rethink towards more sustainability can bring both ecological and economic advantages.
