Small waters in Berlin urgently need support
Next Friday, a tree planting campaign and a dialogue for upgrading the Natural pond Vierling will take place in Berlin-Zehlendorf. This natural pond is one of the more than 700 small waters in Berlin who urgently need support. Despite some positive developments for the amphibians on the Vierling through the cooperation of the district and the volunteer working group "Nature -close green space care of the Fourling" of the Bund Berlin, there are still major problems due to heavily polluted rainwater from the surrounding residential area.
The Wassernetz Berlin and the district councilor for environmental and nature conservation in Steglitz-Zehlendorf invite you to this campaign to discuss the challenges of the four-person and possible solutions. It is emphasized that sustainable care and upgrading the small waters will only be possible with more financial and staff support from the State of Berlin.
Especially the entry of microplastics and heavy metals from the car tire and brake abrasion in the four-ling is a problem that must be addressed by improved rainwater treatment and the expansion of the environmental association. District City Councilor Urban Aykal sees the expansion of the U3 as an opportunity to ensure a cleaner derivation of the rainwater by installing filter systems.
The Wassernetz Berlin is an association of six nature conservation associations that are committed to water protection in Berlin. The fourling is one of 20 waters on which the water network performs upgrading measures. Citizens are cordially invited to participate in the campaign and thus contribute to the protection of nature in their district. Further information can be found on the website of the Wassernetz Berlin.
