Overcome boundaries: Young people from Europe unite for actions in Treptow

The exchange of young people across national borders wrote an exciting chapter in Berlin! Around 50 committed young people from six different countries came to Treptow-Köpenick from October 7th to 12th, 2024 to celebrate culture, understanding and friendship during the "European Democratic Action Week". This week was not just a meeting - it was a real adventure that blew borders and made friendships beyond national borders!

At a time when the cooperation is often pushed into the background, the participants from Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Italy and Ukraine have not only visited workshops on the subject of dance, graffiti, politics and theater, but also overcome language barriers! The exchange addressed the large motto "overcome boundaries". The youngsters had the opportunity to challenge themselves in team building activities and show their skills on the big stage-and all of this in an atmosphere full of creativity and cohesion.

an unforgettable evening full of culinary delights and inspiration

A Highlight of the week was the cooking evening together, where every delegation presented a culinary specialty of their homeland. Starting with the delicious Ukrainian mushroom soup to Romanian Polenta to the Italian Spaghetti Carbonara - the tastes and smells of these countries have conquered the hearts of the participants in the storm!

The crowning glory of the week was the presentation of her creative workshop results in the TREPTOW center library. An impressive wall of graffiti, symbolically for overcoming borders, was revealed, accompanied by dance choreographies and small theater scenes that reflected the courage and creativity of the young people. In addition, exemplary opening speeches for a possible UN conference on the subject of "fighting climate change" were presented-an impressive framework to show the cooperation between these young Europeans!

words that move - an appeal for more understanding

District Mayor Oliver Igel emphasized the importance of such inspiring formats: "In times of growing alienation between people, such formats such as the" European Democratic Action Week "are needed more urgently than ever today. It is the personal exchange that enables us to better understand other perspectives and to develop understanding for each other. ” A strong commitment to the power of the community across all differences-and this comes alive here in Treptow-Köpenick!
