rape in Berlin's subway: a shocking act that shakes the city

The subway line 3 in Berlin became the scene of a shattering act in the early morning hours of February 9, 2024. A logistician named Mohsen K. (33) was out of view to Krumme Lanke on a 63-year-old woman on the last track. The serious consequences of this crime will have a lasting impact on the city and raise questions about protection and security in public transport.

The perpetrator, originally from Iran and since 2016 in Germany, showed dangerous behavior patterns. He was previously known for pushing strange women on the train. On the evening of the Weiberfastnacht, his behavior took a darker turn. In the subway he tried to make a selfie with a disguised woman out of the Grunewald. When she rejected his advances with the words: "I am married!", Raped Mohsen K.

The woman concerned, a well -known personality from the Berlin Society, confesses today that she was thinking for a long time whether she should even report the incident. In the end she decided to protect and warn other women. Thanks to a surveillance camera image from Krumme Lanke train station, Mohsen K. could be arrested not 24 hours after the crime.

The security procedure took place in the hall 220 of the regional court. Due to his diagnosis - schizophrenia - the judges decided that Mohsen K. is a danger to the general public and must therefore not be accommodated in a conventional prison, but in a psychiatric facility. Despite his apology and the statement: "I let her feel my anger on women", the judges have doubts that he would reliably take his medication in freedom.

This case shows the urgent need to increase security in public transport and to take preventive measures. Politics and authorities have to work more closely together to prevent similar incidents. More surveillance cameras, more emphatic security controls and training for staff could be the first steps. It is crucial that dangerous individuals are recognized early and treated accordingly before they commit such crimes. There should also be low -threshold options for victims to report incidents anonymously to ensure that potential criminals can be identified in good time.

political measures, such as the stronger promotion of prevention programs and improving public education about mental illnesses, could help minimize such incidents in the long term. It is important to offer both the victims and potential perpetrators a supporting environment in which help is available quickly and easily.
