Biberach: 8 % rent increase - does the climate balance come?
Biberach: 8 % rent increase - does the climate balance come?
From January 2025, the building cooperative (BG) Biberach proposes a violent rent increase of eight percent for all 663 apartments. This is the first nationwide increase since 2014 that managing director Patrick Detzel announced at the general meeting and described it as socially appropriate. The measure is also intended to help finance the costs incurred and the climate neutrality by 2042 - a goal for which the BG has to invest around 30 million euros. Detzel vehemently rejected that the rent increase was related to the construction of the new office in Kolpingstrasse.
In addition, around 75 "cheap apartments" will disappear with rents below 5.50 euros per square meter from 2025, since these no longer meet the necessary requirements. The average rent of the BG is currently 6.74 euros. Due to the high demand, 95 percent of the apartment inquiries were unsuccessful. A bright spot is the construction project in Hans-Liebherr-Straße: After legal disputes, the 18 social housing should be possible until mid-2025. The BG intends to advance other residential projects and is currently examining various construction solutions. More information on this topic can be found in a report on www.schwaebische.de to be found.
