Tandem adventure in Biberach: Visually impaired discovered new freedom!
Biberach, Deutschland - Frank Reichel and Dieter Zell are an unbeatable tandem on the streets of Biberach! The 81-year-old Reichel and the 55-year-old Zell, who is almost blind, have come together to rediscover the freedom of cycling together. After a difficult diagnosis that severely restricted Zell's life, the idea of driving tandem came up. Since May, the two have been jetting through the surrounding area in colorful bike jerseys and enjoying the fresh air and nature.
Her first tours were seasoned with a mixture of excitement and uncertainty. But it quickly showed that they are a well -coordinated team. Reichel gives clear instructions, while Zell steps into the pedals with full strength - speeds of 35 to 40 km/h are not uncommon! The positive energy that they draw from their common trips brings variety and joy into the everyday life of Zell, while Reichel finally uses his beloved tandem again.
The blind chaplain Monika Schaufler sees this partnership a radiant example of lived inclusion, which unfortunately rarely occurs. Thanks to this Initiative, the doors are open to Zell, who is looking for their own apartment. If you are interested in being active with visually impaired people or who wants to help you find an apartment, you can contact Schaufler. More information can be found here .
