Future of the empty kindergarten: Will social living space soon come?
In Biberach, the former Protestant kindergarten building in Talfeldstrasse 1 has been empty for seven years. Despite the considerations of the citizens to convert as a cross -generational meeting and plans of the city to create affordable living space there, the place remains unused. Ralf Miller, the first mayor of Biberach, explained that the city focuses on projects with quickly implementable living opportunities. The current construction of 18 residential units in Altmannweg shows the urgent need for living space in the region.
The construction of up to six residential units is conceivable for the vacant building, but this would be necessary to change the development plan. Miller points out that the special topography of the property brings challenges. The property currently belongs to the Hospital to the Holy Spirit, and there are efforts to sell the area to the own business. Nevertheless, the old building will continue to be left behind and overgrown. The plans for the future of the dilapidated building and the large property are to be discussed in the committees this year.The building, which was built in 1958, has been empty since the 2017 kindergarten was closed after the Evangelical Church was no longer interested in further use.
