Construction work affects rail traffic: what you need to know until November
The railway is an indispensable part of mobility in Germany, and numerous construction sites are currently planned that could significantly impair both local and long-distance transport. Although the construction work between Neubeckum and Bielefeld is completed on Friday evening, travelers in the region are still facing numerous changes in the timetables by the end of November.
on Saturday, the day after the theses in Neubeckum, the next construction site begins. The exchange of soft and laying new rails begins on the route between Löhne and Hanover. These measures are necessary to give the traffic infrastructure an upgrade, but they also bring challenges for travelers, since the routes will partially be blocked or only accessible.
effects on the timetable
The planned work can also result in some serious changes in the timetable of local and long-distance traffic. In Bad Oeynhausen in particular, there will be no stops for long-distance trains, while in Minden only about half of the Intercity and Intercity Express connections (IC and ICE) will hold. In addition, all travelers in regional traffic are affected by the changes.
This means that the trains on the ICE line between Cologne, Hamm, Hanover and Berlin could be up to 30 minutes longer. Travelers should prepare for different departure and arrival times in North Rhine-Westphalia. An alternative travel concept is also being followed between the 12th and 18th October, since the trains are diverted due to construction work on the railway overpass in Herford, which means that all long-distance traffic in Bielefeld, Gütersloh, Herford and Minden must be
In addition, the ICE sprinter connections on the Bonn-Cologne-Berlin route will be completely eliminated from September 20. For travelers who are dependent on the two-hour IC line Frankfurt-Cologne-Dortmund-Hanover-Magdeburg-Dresden, there will also be restrictions during the construction work, since only the section between Hanover and Dresden is served.
Despite these circumstances, there are still travel options in long -distance transport. During the construction times in Gütersloh, there are individual trains in Gütersloh, and hourly ICE trains are still available in Bielefeld. For many travelers it will be a challenge to keep an eye on the exact travel times and stops, especially if they plan to travel between October 12 and 18.
regional traffic under pressure
For regional transport, the construction work results in a variety of deviations from the usual timetable. Affected lines include the RE60/70 and the S-Bahn line 1 from and to Hanover, which can be driven differently on certain days, or can be partially replaced by buses. The lines RE6, RE78 and RB77, in which diversions and failures are announced, are also particularly affected.
The renewal of two bridges in Herford and Kirchlengern also ensures restrictions in regional traffic. In particular between October 11th and 23rd, travelers must expect changes to the lines RE6, RE70, RE78, and the RB lines. It is advisable to find out about the respective connections and their changes before the trip to avoid any inconvenience.
Overall, it can be seen that the ongoing construction sites are a challenge for rail travelers who have to adapt to a number of inconvenience. It is to be hoped that the work carried out in the long term leads to an improvement in the infrastructure and rail traffic in the region can run smoothly again.
