Marcus Beyer, Tornado expert at the German Weather Service, explains that the long-term mean of recent years is 45 tornados per year. These figures make it clear that tornados are a repetitive but unpredictable weather.

The analysis and confirmation of tornados is a complex process that the German Weather Service carefully operates. Beyer points out that there are often more suspected cases that will continue to be examined in the following year. This leaves space for the possibility that the final number of tornadoes may exceed the current values.
