Toxic jobs: This is how you recognize when the work becomes danger!
In Cologne, the alarming reality of "toxic jobs" is discussed - professions that seriously endanger mental health. Psychologist and TV presenter Rolf Schmiel warns: In such work environments, control, manipulation and excessive stress dominate. This often leads to serious mental problems, which are expressed by sleep disorders, anxiety and irritability. Social professions in which employees often have to work on the limit are particularly at risk. Schmiel emphasizes that employees are often not found the courage to express their stress - it is crucial to address the problem openly and to look for support.
The signs of a toxic working environment are often subtle: increasing demands and lack of support can lead to employees attacking each other instead of helping themselves. Back pain, gastrointestinal problems and even heart attacks are common consequences. Employees should therefore become active and counteract the countermeasures, for example through sports or the exchange with colleagues. Schmiel recommends sharing ideas to improve the work structure with superiors - if this is not successful if it is also considered to change jobs.
