Bundestag is subject: only 11.6% MPs with a migration background!

Gundelsheim, Deutschland - In the new Bundestag, the proportion of MPs with a migration background increased to 11.6 percent. This is a slight increase compared to the previous Bundestag, where the proportion was 11.3 percent. Migration background is defined as people who did not have German citizenship at birth or who have at least one parent with this property. In absolute numbers, there are 73 MPs who are represented in this legislative period. Of these, 53 come to parliament via list and 20 as direct candidates.

The Greens Group has 20 percent the highest proportion of MPs with a migration background, followed by the left with 18.8 percent and the SPD with 17.5 percent. In contrast, CDU and CSU only have 6.3 percent, but this represents an increase compared to 4.1 percent in the previous Bundestag. The AfD has the lowest proportion of 5.9 percent, which also represents a decline compared to 7.2 percent in the old Bundestag.
