New research impulse for teacher training at the University of Paderborn!

The University of Paderborn has launched an important project for reforming the training training with the start of the youth research group "Perform-La". Under the direction of Dr. Christoph Vogelsang, who works at the Center for Education Research and Teacher Education- Plaz-Professional School, aims to design the teaching and examination procedures. This initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with around 1.4 million euros and has a term of five years.

Research findings report that teacher students often have difficulty applying basic knowledge in working situations. As a result, action -related skills in teaching and exams in the teaching degree are sown rare. In comparison, medical training has already successfully integrated action and apprenticeship formats. As part of the project, teaching and examination procedures for educational sciences as well as the subjects of English and physics are developed, tested and analyzed.

research and development

A central element of the research group is the investigation of the acceptance of performance -related formats among teachers and students. Prof. Dr. Bardo Herzig, director of the Plaz-Professional School, describes the recruitment of the project funds as a success and an important building block in teacher training research. In the course of this, two positions for doctoral persons will also be advertised, while a post -doc position is planned from autumn to support the further course of the project.

The "Perform La" initiative is part of the more comprehensive strategy of educational research in Germany. This focuses on the prerequisites for good education for everyone and pursues the goal of promoting personal, cultural and professional development as well as social participation and economic growth. The BMBF promotes educational research with the supporting program for empirical education research, which has been active since 2007 and provides around 35 million euros annually.

goals and fields of action

The supporting program is divided into four fields of action: cooperation for high-quality education, key and future skills, life and learning in a digital world as well as diversity in education and social cohesion. Particular attention is paid to the transfer of research results into education practice. The close cooperation between researchers and educational practitioners makes it possible to identify specific needs and to develop solutions.

Educational research provides empirically secure knowledge that is of crucial importance for politics, administration and practice. Over 100 research projects are currently running that cover topics such as educational justice, digitization, inclusion, diversity, quality and linguistic education. Overall, the BMBF has already promoted 718 research projects, including 231 composite projects in order to secure and further develop the quality of the German education system.
