The framework conditions for AI in university education

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been promoting the use of artificial intelligence in university formation since the end of 2021. Embedded in the federal-state Initiative "Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education", projects are supported that aims to use intelligent assistance systems and AI-based learning and examination systems. The aim of this initiative is to further develop the technologies and to build competencies and infrastructures to support universities in integrating AI.

These developments are part of a more comprehensive image in which universities have to adapt to the challenges of digital transformation. The data that arises at universities from enrollments, surveys and examination data includes valuable information that can be used for the development of adaptive systems. However, it remains important that this data is pseudonymized or anonymized to ensure the data protection of the students.

Prof. Dr. de Witt and Prof. Dr. Isfen have clear visions in order to position the FernUniversität as a future -oriented educational institution and to promote social responsibility while they want to increase the attractiveness of the courses.
