ABC train of the district of Kleve practices chemical emergency in the Gocher industrial area

ff Goch: ABC Zug practices in the industrial area - security training for emergencies

Last Saturday, a large-scale exercise of the ABC train and the Dekon-P10 unit of the district of Kleve took place in the Goch industrial area. The emergency services trained on the site of the spirits manufacturer Minerva for an emergency in order to be able to react quickly and effectively in the event of a chemical incident.

In the scenario of the exercise, a container had fallen during the forklift work during the conversion work, which led to damage to several containers and a pipeline. This in turn caused the exit of dangerous chemicals that developed toxic vapors. The emergency services had to proceed in special chemical protection suits to explore the Situation and identify the material.

With measuring devices, test strips and container identification, it was quickly found that it was a strong acidity. Under great use, the units managed to set up a container and prevent the spread of the fabric. Nevertheless, not all the leaks could be sealed immediately, which brought additional challenges.

After the acid was securely pumped out and the emergency services were decontaminated, the exercise ended successfully. Around 50 emergency services were involved in the training and were able to gain important experiences for the emergency. The ABC train is a central component of the local help that every district or independent city has to entertain in order to be able to react quickly in chemical incidents.

Such exercises strengthen regional security and the operational readiness of the fire brigade and other emergency services increases. Training in the Goch industrial area is part of a continuous process to be prepared for different scenarios and to save life in an emergency.
