lightning strike destroys chimney in Nymphenburg

An unexpected lightning strike in Nymphenburg caused considerable damage to a chimney in the night from Monday to Tuesday. The event meant that several buildings had to be temporarily cut off by the gas supply.

The fire brigade was alerted by smoke in a kitchen that was due to the lightning strike. Although there were no more obvious fire or smoke traces on the arrival of the professional fire brigade, an apartment was completely without electricity. After a thorough examination by the fire brigade units, including the use of a 30 -meter -high turntable ladder, it was found that the lightning was taken to the fireplace of the house and caused considerable damage.

Out of concern for possible toxic emissions by the damaged fireplace, the affected buildings and their neighbors were switched off by the gas supply as a precaution. Only after all potential dangers were eliminated, could the emergency services be handed over to the homeowner.

The exact amount of the damage incurred could not be estimated by the fire brigade. The professional fire brigade was on site to cope with the situation and to ensure the security of the residents.
