Nationwide controls: Water protection police strike for environmental violations!
In the week from May 12th to 18th, action days on environmental and water protection took place nationwide, organized by the North Rhine-Westphalia Water Protection Police. A total of 722 checks were carried out in the sea and inland navigation, in which deficiencies were determined in 179 cases- each fourth vehicle was affected!
A check in Rhineland-Palatinate was particularly alarming, where two day trip ships with structural defects and defective sewage systems were blown up. Wastewater from the kitchen and toilet area flowed unfiltered into the Saar, which led to an immediate driving ban. Even a wastewater treatment plant did not withstand the regulations, and more than 1m³ unexplained wastewater landed in German territorial waters. Criminal proceedings were initiated here, and the skipper had to deposit a four -digit security deposit before he was able to continue his journey. In total, the officials wrote 17 criminal complaints and 255 administrative offenses.
