The police warn: Unlocked cars become the theft magnet!

In the past few weeks, the Trier police headquarters have found an alarming increase in thefts from unlocked cars, especially in the Wittlich region. The perpetrators avoid the safety of the vehicles by simply breaking the doors of open cars and stealing what falls into their hands. Several places, including Bettenfeld, Wallenborn, and Feusdorf, are affected, where a total of 47 incidents were reported. The loot includes cash, clothing and tools worth several thousand euros.

The latest incidents are particularly worrying: From April 16 to 19, seven thefts occurred in Mettendorf, Sinspelt and Body, followed by ten more in the night from April 20 to April 21 in Feusdorf and another ten cases between 23 and 24 April in Oberbettingen. The police are currently investigating whether there is a connection between the incidents and intensely advises to always complete vehicles and never leave valuables visible.
