Drama on the A8: Truck accident leads to 6 km traffic jam near Leonberg!

On Saturday morning, May 10, 2025, there was a dramatic traffic accident on the A8 in the direction of Karlsruhe, shortly before the Leonberg-West junction. A 71-year-old driver of a Daimler-Benz Actros saddle train lost control and raced from the road, broke through the protection plank and damaged different traffic facilities over a length of around 100 meters. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed, but the total damage amounts to a terrifying 90,000 euros. The tractor -trailer was no longer ready to drive and had to be towed.

The consequences of the accident attracted extensive measures: Due to expiring operating materials, the environmental water office was alerted, which had to remove ground on site over a length of 75 meters. During the rescue and cleaning work, the hard shoulder, the rights and sometimes also the medium lane, were blocked, which led to considerable traffic disruptions. Drivers had to expect a backlog of up to 6 kilometers by the afternoon.
