Drama on Rügen: Fishing boat accident ends fatally-drivers alcoholic!

On May 12, 2025, a tragic sports boat accident in the Wieker Bodden on Rügen. At around 4:15 p.m., the Sassnitz Water Protection Police Inspection was alerted after a fishing boat was overturned with three crew members. Immediate rescue measures were initiated, with the sea rescue boats "Nausikaa" and "Manfred Hessdörfer" and the fire brigade Glowe involved. The three anglers could be recovered, but one of them, a 62-year-old from the Salzwedel district, was no longer available and had to be reanimated. Unfortunately he died later in the hospital.

The other two anglers, 63 and 64 years old, also from the Salzwedel district, suffered hypothermia and shocks and received medical care on site. Alcohol was found in the blood at the boat leader. The Stralsund public prosecutor has ordered a blood test, while the water protection police filed a criminal complaint for negligent killing and endangering shipping traffic. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is underway.
