12-year-old falls in the empty factory: danger banned!

A serious accident occurred in Hamburg-Harburg, where a twelve-year-old boy fell in an abandoned factory. The incident occurred in an empty building of the former New York Hamburg rubber-wawer Compagnie at the Harburg inland port. The boy fell about four meters into the depth and suffered a foot injury, but there was never danger to life. The emergency services were called to the corner of Northernstrasse/Neuländer Strasse shortly before 6 p.m. to supply the boy. An emergency doctor and paramedic provided first aid on site.

The Hamburg fire brigade was used with several vehicles to support the rescue measures. The accident area is part of an industrial wasteland that has been decaying for years, which is closed to unauthorized persons. The dilapidated buildings are considered to be in danger of collapse and combs were previously made in the former production facility. The investigation into the cause of the fall and the access of the boy to the locked area are still underway.

background for security in urban rooms

This accident raises all the more questions, given the continuing problems with security in urban rooms. As part of bilateral collaborations in civilian security research, the BMBF and the resorts to strengthen national security are implemented. A central project is the initiative "Future Security in Urban Rooms", which aims to develop concepts to create a safe living environment and to focus in particular on safety and diversity in urban quarters.

The initiatives, such as the Diverscity project, develop case studies on crime prevention and the integration of immigrants. Local surveys and housing market analyzes are also carried out in order to obtain a comprehensive image of the security situation in urban areas, reports SIFO

The challenges of outdated and unused industrial areas, such as those in Hamburg-Harburg, make it clear how important such security projects are to prevent accidents such as that of the boy.
