In the early morning hours of May 7, the Moers fire brigade was called to Franz-Haniel Str. in Moers-Scherpenberg at 0:20 a.m. when a huge firing was already visible from the arrival. When it arrived, parts of the outdoor area of ​​a hardware store burned.

The fire brigade immediately sent several squads into fire fighting under respiratory protection, while turning ladders were used to secure the main building. In order to prevent the flames from spreading, the fire protection gates inside the building were closed. Due to the massive use, the Franz-Haniel Str.
