This morning at 7:27 a.m. a tragic scene at the Frankfurter Straße level in Hennef: A cyclist was hit by an approaching freight train and suffered fatal injuries. The alarmed police, rescue workers and the fire brigade quickly arrived, but all help came too late for the unknown cyclist.

According to the first investigations, the cyclist ran over the level crossing, although the barriers were already closed. The train that was traveling towards Cologne could not brake in time. The identity of the cyclist has not yet been determined, the investigation is in full swing. Meanwhile, emergency pastors take care of the witness and the train driver, both of whom suffer from the shock of the incident.
