Tragedy in Graal-Müritz: Three children after an accident-a fundraising campaign started
A difficult stroke of fate met a family from the Graal-Müritz Baltic Sea resort during the Easter holidays. On Good Friday, April 18, a tragic accident occurred on the A14, in which the parents of three children died. The 61-year-old father and the 48-year-old mother died when her car came off the street between Schwerin-Nord and Jesendorf and overturned several times. The two younger siblings, an eleven-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son, sat in the back seat during the accident and were seriously injured.
The family was on the way home from a visit to the eldest son, who is 21 years old and plans to move back to Graal-Müritz to take care of his injured siblings. The community in Graal-Müritz, which counts around 4,500 inhabitants, shows great solidarity and helpfulness. In order to organize the financial support for the three orphans, a fundraising campaign via the Gofundme online platform was launched. The mayor, Benita Chelvier, and the volunteer fire brigade support the call and emphasize the urgency to cover rental and funeral costs.
donation campaign and community aid
The fundraising campaign started on Friday morning, April 25, and was quickly successful: by Friday morning, almost 21,000 euros were collected to help the traumatized siblings. The younger children are members of the youth fire brigade and are particularly under the emotional stress of this unimaginable loss. A guardian was used by the youth welfare office to ensure that the children receive the necessary support. In addition, the Evangelical Church offers the orphaned pastoral accompaniment.
global perspective on orphanage
In view of the fate of the three siblings, it is important to shed light on the global situation of orphans. According to the aid organization BE AID, more than 140 million orphans are waiting for support worldwide. This organization specializes in securing orphans who live in war and crisis areas. BE AID carries out various aid programs that range from the distribution of clothing and food to medical support and social education. For the affected children in Graal-Müritz and many other orphans, this gives themselves the opportunity to make positive changes by donating to organizations such as BE AID. The work of these aid organizations is crucial to improve the living conditions of orphans, to cover their basic needs and to enable them to have a hopeful future.
In this tragic course, the power of the community and compassion for the vulnerable in our society is shown. The coming weeks will be crucial to ensure that the siblings are not only financially but also emotionally supported, while they have to go their way into a new future without their parents.
