Dangerous aquaplaning accidents: weather endangers drivers on A61 and A63

In the morning of September 4, 2024, there were dangerous weather conditions on the German motorways, which led to several accidents. In particular, aquaplaning, a phenomenon that occurs when water builds up on the road and the tires lose contact with the street, was a serious risk for drivers. While many drove carefully on their way, two drivers caught it particularly violently.

The second incident later occurred on the same day at 6:40 p.m. on the A 63 near Göllheim. A 74-year-old driver was affected here, who also fell due to the bad weather conditions and heavy rain. His vehicle initially crashed into the middle protection plank before it fell over the entire road and ultimately crashed into the right protection plank. In this accident, his 54-year-old passenger was slightly injured. The emergency services brought them to an obvious hospital for further examination. The 74-year-old's car was no longer ready to drive after the collision and had to be towed. The police estimate the damage to the vehicle at around 15,000 euros.

These incidents illustrate how important it is to adapt the speed to the weather conditions, especially in heavy rains. Aquaplaning can be done quickly, and even experienced drivers can lose control of their vehicle if they are not particularly careful. Safe driving not only requires a reasonable speed, but also a constant awareness of the changing conditions on the street.

The police emphasize the need for caution and the observance of weather warnings in order to avoid such dangerous situations. It remains to be seen whether further security measures will be taken on the streets to minimize the risk of aquaplaning and to sensitize the drivers.
