On Saturday evening, April 26, 2025, the Düren police were called for an incident in Vettweiß-Froitzheim after several vehicle owners had found damage to their cars. A total of 13 parked cars, some of them, showed considerable paint damage. Despite immediate investigations, no person or vehicle who was responsible for the damage could be found.

Information indicates that mooring companies that drove through the village and transported maypoles could possibly be involved in the incident. In the subsequent investigations, a tractor with a trailer was discovered in a Zülpicher town, the maypole crown of which protruded across the loading areas. The first estimates of the damage amount to around 30,000 euros. The driver's license from a 21-year-old from Zülpich, who was traveling with the team at the time of the crime, was ensured. He denies having caused damage. The traffic commissioner in Düren has initiated investigations into the scene of the accident for unauthorized removal and asks witnesses for information.
