Cyclists escape with Mercedes in Hamm after an accident - references wanted!

Hamm (ots)

On Friday, September 6th, there was an incident in Hamm around 1:25 p.m., which may seem insignificant at first glance, but still caused trouble for the injured party. At the intersection of Dortmunder Straße/Zechenweg, a Mercedes parked, whose driver had stopped in a backlog after a waiting time. Suddenly, without warning, a cyclist passed and grazed the vehicle in the back with his handlebar.

The cyclist hastily moved away from the scene of the accident and thus caused confusion and frustration with the victim. Despite a short persecution by the driver of the Mercedes, the unknown cyclist was able to escape soon afterwards and thus escaped responsibility. It shows once again that traffic accidents often not only cause material damage, but also emotional reactions.

Details of the incident

The description of the fleeting cyclist could be the key to his identity: it is described as male, between 22 and 30 years old and about 170 cm tall. At the time of the incident, he wore strikingly gray work clothes and a gray cap, which indicates a possibly professional activity. His bike - a pedelec / MTB of the Cube brand in gray with striking orange shock absorbers - was also described precisely. In addition, saddlebags were attached to the bike.

The property damage caused by the Mercedes is estimated at around 1,000 euros, which makes the need for references. It cannot be denied that such incidents underline the need for responsibility in road traffic. Every road user is responsible and should adhere to the rules to avoid such misfortunes.

The police therefore started a call to find possibly driven drivers or passers -by who could have observed the incident. Information can be submitted by phone at 02381 916-0 or by email to information.hamm@polizei.nrw.de

The Situation also raises questions: What does people cause people to flee after an accident? It could be afraid, a guilty conscience or perhaps also a rash action. Regardless of the motives, it is important to consider the legal consequences of such behavior.
