When the smell of fresh sports clothing and the sound of cheering spectators hovers through the air, the police in Germany know that it is time for something special. In the next week, their uniforms will exchange the police officers for sporting outfits and show what they can do with the German police championships in athletics at the competition for medals. Around 300 participants from all over Germany meet in the athletics stadium in Rostock to compete in disciplines such as hurdles, relay, spear throw, medium and long-distance run as well as hammer throw, discus throwing and high jump.
This event, organized by the German Police Sports Board (DPSK), is a real highlight in the annual calendar of the police sports community. For many of the athletes, this is not only a competition, but also an opportunity to demonstrate their hard training hours. Athletes who also compete in other national and international competitions are expected here, among them the Rostock Speer launcher Eric Frank, who is considered one of the medal hopes.
