Students are made to heroes: bicycle thieves and in custody

Dortmund -two students have noticed in a remarkable way to prevent bicycle theft in front of the Max Planck High School. The 16-year-old pupils were accidentally in the right place on September 5 at the right time and acted as they observed two suspicious men who apparently stole an e-bike. This remarkable observation ultimately led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrators and to replace the stolen bike.

At around 1 p.m. the two men stood on a bicycle rack in front of the school on Ardeystrasse. While the students were waiting for their bus at a nearby bus stop, they noticed the men who behaved suspiciously. After the students got on the bus, they could see how the two men drove away with the e-bike of a friend. This immediately attracted her attention, and they decided to get out at the next stop Westfallhallen to continue to observe the situation.

Thanks to the attentive students, the police were quickly informed. Their observations and information about the e-bike meant that the emergency services were able to arrest the two men. It was a 30-year-old Lithuanian without a permanent residence and a 51-year-old German who lives in Dortmund. Both suspects are already known to the police for similar offenses and were already the focus of the investigators.

A judge immediately issued a ceremony for the two men. This is a clear indication of how seriously the authorities take the incidents. The stolen bicycle was secured and later returned to the rightful owner, who is also a student of the school.
