Fire brigade use on the Rhine: Community use saves inland navigation

The events last Thursday on the Rhine at Neuss-Grimlinghausen again showed the effectiveness and cooperation of the emergency services in emergency situations. An inland ship came in need when a cooling water line burst and led to a strong smoke development.

The skipper acted quickly and was able to secure his 86 meter long inland ship with 1,890 tons of freight in good time and anchor on the edge of the fairway. This enabled the incoming rescue teams to overlook the situation and take measures to repair the damage.

The fire brigade Neuss, supported by the Düsseldorf fire brigade and the water protection police, worked together to temporarily close the leak and make the ship off again. After several emergency services were brought on board with tools and material, the repair was possible within two hours.

Thanks to the quick intervention and the coordinated work of the rescue teams, the inland ship was able to continue its journey and avoid potentially worse damage. The incident illustrated the importance of a well -trained and ready -to -use fire brigade, which is able to act in critical situations and to protect human life as well as property.
