Serious accident on the old Poststrasse: drivers are saved

On Wednesday evening, September 4, 2024, there was a serious traffic accident on the old Poststrasse in Iserlohn. The accident occurred at 8:23 p.m. when a vehicle that was traveling from Iserlohn towards Schwerte came off the road and collided with a tree. The car, occupied by one person, ultimately came to a standstill in the adjacent street ditch, which led to a dramatic use for the rescue workers.

The alarmed emergency services arrived shortly after the accident and saw themselves confronted with a worrying situation: the driver was trapped in the vehicle and required an elaborate technical rescue. In order to gently free the accident victim, special equipment had to be used, which were provided by the firefighters. The situation was tightened by the need to rule out other possible injured people. For this reason, several thermal imaging cameras were used to search the surroundings thoroughly.

rescue operation and challenges

within walking distance and out of the air, the emergency services carried out comprehensive controls in the vicinity of the accident. These preventive measures were necessary because the use of rescue agents in the entire region of the Nordkreis became complicated due to a bottleneck. To ensure that the injured driver received the necessary medical care as quickly as possible, an ambulance and an emergency doctor from Hagen were requested.

After the technical rescue, the injured driver was immediately transported to a clinic in Dortmund in order to be medical care. According to reports from the Iserlohn professional fire brigade, the old Poststrasse had to be completely closed for about three hours, which led to considerable traffic disruptions in the area. A total of 25 emergency services were used for around 100 minutes to control the situation.

The challenges during the use not only illustrate the dangers that lurk in road traffic, but also the need for a quick and coordinating rescue reaction. During the entire operation, several extinguishing groups, including the groups from Bremke, Stadtmitte and Letmathe, moved to support the professional fire brigade and occupied the fire station. The professional and rapid reaction of the rescue workers was crucial to cope with the situation and to provide the patient the necessary medical help.

The events on this evening have shown how important well -trained and coordinated rescue teams are in order to act quickly and efficiently in emergencies. Road traffic accidents like this can have serious consequences, and the quick rescue can often decide on life and death.
