Speed marathon in Ludwigsburg: Police chases racers and drug drivers!
On Wednesday, April 9, 2023, the police headquarters Ludwigsburg again took part in the Europe-wide “Speedmarathon”, a 24-hour event for speed monitoring. This campaign takes place as part of the RoadPol control week, which will be carried out this year from April 7th to April 13th. In the focus of accidents and expressways, the officers controlled compliance with the speed restrictions to increase traffic safety. Erwin Grosser, head of the protective police department, emphasized that higher speeds are still the main cause of serious traffic accidents.
The police headquarters set up 45 checkpoints in the districts of Böblingen and Ludwigsburg as well as on motorway sections. In addition to speed monitoring, drugs also play an important role in road traffic. In 2024, 1,122 people were displayed under the influence of illegal drugs for driving, with the majority of previously consumed cannabis. Despite the partial legalization of cannabis, driving remains illegal under its influence. Thomas Wild, head of the police headquarters, emphasized the importance of a sound training of the control forces in order to effectively identify and combat drug influences.
