Environmental protection in danger: 24.8% of the ships for controls!
In the first half of 2025, the fourth nationwide waters' and environmental protection week took place- organized by the Water Protection Police North Rhine-Westphalia (WSP NRW). During this nationwide control, all coastal and internal countries were included to ensure that international environmental protection standards, in particular the marble regulations to prevent marine pollution, are observed.
A total of 722 controls were carried out in sea and inland navigation, with remarkable 179 complaints being found- this corresponds to an alarming complaint rate of 24.8 %. The area of “control coast” was particularly critical, with a quota of terrifying 47 %. Lower Saxony was also active and controlled 102 ships, 38 of which were classified as worthy of complaint. In addition to proper controls, the officials were also involved in preventive discussions with the on-board staff to point out the important regulations in the area of environmental and sea protection.
