On the evening of July 17, 2024, a tragic traffic accident occurred on the federal road 212 between Rodenkirchen and Esenshamm, which cost a driver's life. A 76-year-old Nordenhamer got on the opposite lane for reasons that have so far been unexplained and collided with a tractor-trailer from the Netherlands, which was controlled by a 34-year-old driver.

The collision led to the death of the 76-year-old driver, while the driver of the saddle train was not injured. The damage on both vehicles amounts to around 35,000 euros.

The accident recording and rescue work required a full closure of the B 212 until the next day at 01:00 a.m. The voluntary fire brigades Rodenkirchen and Schweiz were in action. Local redirection has been set up and further work is required to rescue the semitrailer.
